Kaluga Region is situated in the Central Federal District, to the South-East of Moscow. Its territory is 29,9 thousand square kilometers. Its population counts 1001,6 thousand people,the number of economically-active population is 565,5 thousand people.

The biggest cities are: Kaluga – the regional center (343,1 thousand people) and Obninsk (105,6 thousand people). The share of urban population is 76 %.
